When I was afflicted, I looked to the sky I did as instructed without asking why But being no stranger to absolute danger I made my escape on the sly In a land of dust and decay When I was within a stone's throw of the fire I pissed on the ruins of the ebony spire My course was erratic, my ears filled with static My nerves were a high voltage wire In a land of dust and decay When I was afflicted, I did what was best The chaos of life was an adequate test My heart, beating faster with every disaster, Demanded a well-deserved rest In a land of dust and decay

Going crazy, growing old 'Cos my love life is turning cold Was affection really fake Am I just too much man to take Now I believe that a heart can be broken Thanks to your evil ways But in spite of the way that you hurt me I'm gonna beg you to stay Nothing pains me like your laugh My emotions get split in half Slept with friends I respect Now my sanity is surely wrecked And when you got me lost, I worried You never brought me back And when we brought out hearts together I thought you enjoyed the attack Will the things that I say Ever make your confusion sway 'Cos I hang from this limb And it's sad to see you loving him
3.
I cannot believe I said goodbye to you yesterday I cannot believe that you have gone, gone, gone away But if your plans should ever fail I'll be the winds that fill your sail I'll be the one that you can share a good laugh with But if your dreams should ever die I'll be the twinkle in your eye I'll be the one that you can share a good cry with May fortune smile upon you Wherever you are May you surrender to A love that leaves no scar May all your wishes be Upon a falling star And may your road go ever on But if your heart should ever bleed I'll be responsive to your need I'll be the one that you can share a good life with

It means no cheesecake, cotton candy, apple pie As I awake the American dream lays down and dies Lays down and dies The Wall Street wasteland houses shells of broken life My children shot the dog and now they eye my wife They eye my wife I saw a man with a controversial dream Some rallied to his side, the others had their schemes They had their schemes I saw a man who challenged wrong, a man who fought I saw a man betrayed, I saw a man get shot A man was shot And now I'm certain that the world is going blind My possibility I can hide what's in my mind What's in my mind Life is no carnival, no circus of three rings It's just a freak show playing to amuse the kings Amuse the kings

Woke up on that misty morning Wondering what I'd have to face A savior lent a word of praise And I fled to my inner space Masses of humanity Were gathered in the village square Smiling faces stared at me Patient urgings filled the air My audience was veiled in black The tension was unbearable I hastily recited prose And muttered ancient parables But in moments of reflection This great congregation wept For the world was governed by The foolish, ruthless, and inept Indecision rules the land What is right and what is wrong Many faiths can contradict And our devout can't get along But complaints alone do nothing To improve our bitter lives We shall make our voice be heard Should everybody toil and strive Pleading with our mighty lords And praying to our pagan gods Rob the rich and feed the poor For it shall serve the common cause But our pain however was ignored We soon went separate ways In our absence nothing more was said About the world's decay

I could've sworn that this was love I thought that when push came to shover Your daily dose of indecision Wasn't so much heart as head I placed my life within your hands Saved up the spine for steep demands I set myself up to look like The biggest jerk who ever said... Give me one more chance And I will make it up to you, et cetera Give me one more chance To prove that my old ways are through, et cetera No matter what I say, I don't expect you'll stay It didn't work on the last girl either I could've sworn you were the one I thought when all was said and done A lapse in judgment was forgivable A subject good as dead I never thought about the cost Or all the common ground we'd lost I set myself up to look like The biggest creep who ever said... I could've sworn this thing would last I thought the past was in the past But everything I bury turns around And buries me instead I traded in your sacred trust For bleary-eyed weekends of lust I set myself up to look like The biggest fiend who ever said...

Her passions were impossible And ill equipped to last Her weapons were so subtle That I never felt the blast Her morals were rejected They afford no convenience To a woman who's impaled Upon the past And I say thanks but no thanks I'd rather keep my wits about me Thanks but no thanks You were not the first to doubt me Claiming you could love without me Now you've got a splendid opportunity Her talents were considerable But she preferred to tease Her greatest pleasure came From bringing people to their knees Her ethics were elastic As befits the sort of hypocrite Who revises their espoused beliefs With ease And when I'm philosophical I say she's not to blame All her family ever gave her was her name But knowing her misfortune Doesn't change the way I feel She ought to dry her eyes and take the wheel Kick those horses into life And see her hometown Through the rear view mirror

Jackie's got it figured out She's gonna find a privileged man Who doesn't mind providing her With more than she deserves Jackie had a boyfriend But he didn't make a lot of bread I heard that he's a singer In a part-time basement band And Jackie says, "why are all the good ones married, Why are all the good ones gay?" Jackie, they got wise to you, Go, go, go away Jackie's got it figured out And if she gains a dozen pounds She'll have an explanation For her current lack of dates Jackie had a boyfriend But he simply wasn't cute enough I heard that he was last seen In the arms of her best friend Jackie's got it figured out She'll throw herself at any man And if he doesn't back away She'll sigh and call it love Jackie had a boyfriend But he couldn't stand another day I heard that he's a singer With an album on the charts

I drove you back home and we fell into bed satisfying my body but disturbing my head now you're enigma and we're never in touch heard you don't want me, could've figured as much my swift fall from grace and your poker face tell me Autumn's gonna chill me to the bone we all have an ego, says we cannot be used so was it your pleasure, must I be so confused a bit deeper substance lurks behind this facade so tell me the truth, at least give me a nod my swift fall from grace and your poker face tell me Autumn's gonna chill me to the bone leaves are falling from the trees they leave nothing but my hope grey horizons, just like my soul Autumn makes it hard to cope so was your decision the one I heard voiced did a friend with opinions ever leave you a choice your friend needs a lesson in social affairs he's cost you another, does he even care my swift fall from grace and your poker face tell me Autumn's gonna chill me to the bone the well-wishers tell me I should just move on love's unrequited and my chance is gone but I'll remember the friction and subsequent flow I'll hear your name when the Autumn winds blow my swift fall from grace and your poker face tell me Autumn's gonna chill me to the bone

about

We had no particular aesthetic except to do whatever sounded like fun at the time. Some of the things that sounded like fun at the time were psychedelia, hardcore punk, prog rock, folk rock, indie rock, grunge and glam rock. The resultant melange made us unfashionable, to say the least - but we had fun. Here's some of our best recordings (including a few alternate mixes and unissued recordings), sequenced into the full-length album we never got to make.
