about

For Brian Andrew Marek, betwixt Lemonade and Popcorn lay Fuzz Sculpture, a short-lived exercise in the power trio format. Drummer Mike Thorn a/k/a Mike T. Horn thundered ahead like the mutant offspring of Keith Moon and Neil Peart. Guitarist Steve Minnis brought fleet fingers and an encyclopedia of classic rock riffs. BaM handled bass guitar, occasional keyboards, and most of the lead vocals. They only managed to get four songs committed to tape for their demo - two covers and two Marek originals. This is that EP.

BaM's recollections, circa 2000:

After leaving Lemonade, Brian Andrew Marek pursued his wish to work with ex-Here drummer/vocalist Mike Thorn. Mike was working with two other Here alumni, guitarist/vocalist Steve Minnis and a bass player, on a number of "high energy" covers and some rudimentary Thorn/Minnis originals. Marek was brought in as a frontman/vocalist (with an eye towards occasional keyboards and guitar), but when the bassist quit after one practice, Brian picked up his Fender Precision as a temporary solution. As time wore on, Marek's bass skills improved, and no replacement was sought.

Although this band, which became known as Fuzz Sculpture, was highly exciting and musically impressive, they only played for an audience once - at a Christmas party, playing one set alone and another backing Elvis impersonator Steve Davis!

With Steve Minnis constantly putting off the prospect of club dates, Mike Thorn expressing a desire to join Steve Davis' permanent band, and constant bickering over music direction, however, nothing more came of Fuzz Sculpture. Brian hastily quit when an old buddy by the name of Craig Downs called him up and asked if he'd like to do some recordings. This collaboration would result in the formation of Popcorn.
